The Estate - Bevendean History Project
David Guy Farmer at Bevendean in 1891Query from Sara Brown
I was wondering if you could shed some light on some information that we are looking for please. My partner Robert Eric Guy is the great grandson of David Guy. We were trying to find out about Bevendean House which is where he and his family were on the census of 1891 were living but we have been unable to find anything out at all. We would be very grateful for any information about the family that you may have.

Bevendean House was the farm house of Lower Bevendean Farm.
The Bevendean History website has a description of the farm house in 1912, when the farm was being sold. The site also contains photographs and plans of the farm.
The original documents are all kept at the Keep; the Brighton and East Sussex Records Office at Woollards Way, Brighton, BN1 9BP.
It is possible that you could find more information by looking at electoral registers for the years in question.
There is nothing left of Lower Bevendean Farm now as a housing estate was built on the land just after the Second World War.
Further information from Sara
Bob said that he used to rummage around in the ruins of the farm when he was a young boy as he actually lived in Bevendean in his youth - little did he know then that his ancestors had trod there.
Rather a nice thought actually isn't it!
Thank you for the information about The Keep as well I shall try to find out where David Guy now rests as I am sure that he hasn't had a visit for many years.
Further information from census records
Note. In 1901 Tom Corkett was the Farm Bailiff at Lower Bevendean Farm.
